ISA grows 100% in 2007

The year 2007 consolidated ISA’s quick expansion demonstrated over the last 5 years. ISA came out of 2007 with a total revenue of 4M€. The profitability keeps on boosting up, as a result of a policy of development and worldwide launch of technological innovative products of increased value. The long-term effects are now emerging, which is demonstrated by the growth in 200% of EBITDA, which is estimated to be reaching 600,000€, and of the income before taxes, which will hopefully be achieving 250,000€. Exportations represented more than 80% of the total invoicing of 2007.

ISA doubled the amount of sold telemetry equipment, over 35,000, which are settled in more than 20 countries, throughout the 5 continents. In 2008 ISA desires to enlarge the aggregate turnover and the profitability of investments, growing at least 50% and reinforcing the determination to innovate their projects and the will to a greater internationalization.

ISA and Vodafone present Blueaccess solution

ISA and Vodafone developed a solution which allows the payment automation in closed parking facilities. The Blueaccess solution operates based on bluetooth and enables the opening and closing of the gate that controls the access to a park, by phone. The presentation of this solution took place in February, with a live demonstration at the Lisboa Tivoli Hotel parking lot. This partnership follows other projects successfully developed, such as the WirelessSafePack – videosurveillance solution -, and opens way to future cooperation relations between ISA and Vodafone.

Big Companies visit ISA (Primagaz France, EDP and E-ON)

Aiming to strengthen relations with its clients, ISA welcomed 3 partners into its facilities in Coimbra: Primagaz, the French giant in gas distribution, to whom ISA supplies tank monitoring and automatic reading services; EDP, Portuguese electricity company and ISA partner in the development of energy efficiency projects; and E-ON, one of the world´s biggest energy companies acting in the domains of electricity and gas, and of whom ISA recently became partner.

The Primagaz visit, on 10th and 11th of January, included the presentation of the Eco-Casa project at Quercus’ headquarters, a pilot plan which aims to study electrical consumption throughout Portugal. This project led to the intention to enlarge current cooperation, in order to include energy efficiency solutions (iMeter), such as automatic meter reading or the control of domestic boilers, adding value and widening the panoplia of services offered to the final client.

Primagaz

EDP was represented by its Distribution Department on 2nd of February. The visit targeted the iMeter presentation and included a special focus on the Quinta da Portela project and water automatic reading (in charge of Companhia Águas de Coimbra). Motivated by the great results achieved by this project, EDP decided to broaden it and also include electricity reading.

EDP

From E-ON, ISA welcomed the Marketing and Development responsibles. This visit was crucial to specify the next steps of the new project, witch the companies will develop together.

E-ON

ISA thus reinforces the transparency of its activities and the will to present to its partners both the locations and the team responsible for the successful implementation of all projects.

ISA starts 2008 with strong international tradefairs exposure

2008 has seen the day with the strengthening of ISA’s presence in several international reference events and with the renewal of booth design associated to a stronger brand image. It was in Essen, Germany, that the “E-World Energy” took place between the 19th and the 21st of February. This european event, reference in the energy sector, had a special focus on the improvement of energy efficiency, environmental protection and reduction of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, and also on the main trends of electricity and gas markets.

Stand

ISA reinforces its position in the energy sector, by promoting the excellency and innovation of its products, targeting intelligent electricity, gas and water metering (iMeter) or the management of water treatment and supply stations (iWater). On its turn, World Mobile Congress (3GSM), held between the 11th and the 14th of February, gathered M2M and mobile communications partners. ISA shared a booth with Inova-ria and ensured on-site follow-up with the most recent developments on the telecommunication sector.

ISA invests in Human Resources by supporting the CMU Master Software Engineering

ISA became associated in an innovative way to what is considered the world’s best Master in Engineering Software. This degree lectured at the University of Coimbra and at the Carnegie Mellon University intends to generate the leaders of this industry, which is taking its first great steps in Portugal. Financed partially by the government, this master is also supported by 8 different companies, including ISA. This company has committed itself to sponsor their own professionals and to finance studies and associated expenses to external students, who are guaranteed a job after they complete the program. ISA, on its turn, ensures greater qualification of human resources working on the Innovation and Development, key factors to ISA’s success.

ISA participates in 2.4 Million Euros Program

ISA partakes of the first public-private R&D partnership, under the 7th Programa Quadro, representing, in collaboration with Critical Software, the ARTEMISA foundation group, European industrial association that developed the ARTEMIS project. This technological initiative focuses investigation in the fields of Embedded Systems – autonomous devices with specific functions integrated in diverse equipments – and usufructs from the first investment in technological investigation approved by the European Commission labeled as “Joint Technology Initiative”.

This system of financing technological investigation intends to bring together resources from industry, UE and national programs. In the scope of this project, ISA will collaborate in the development of solutions that will support energetic efficiency and also of devices that will promote, in the biomedical field, the users’ lifestyle. ISA reinforces once again the determination to innovate their projects and in technological development, participating in praised projects and strengthening its position nationally and beyond borders.

ISA supports scientific initiatives: sponsoring of eco-vehicle and smallest engine in the world

Always on the spotlight of innovation and promoting technological and scientific culture, ISA joined efforts with University of Coimbra in two never seen initiatives. The development of the Eco-Vehicle aims to revolutionize the automobile conception, favoring energy economy and the optimization of fuel consumption. Besides economic sponsorship, ISA is also responsible for the development of the digital displayers that will equip the new prototype supplying real-time information, and also of the data loggers which will store information about the engine and other operational parameters.

ECO CAR

ISA also sponsored the smallest and simplest electric engine in the world, by distributing 500 engine kits, in a scientific divulgation that took place at a shopping mall in Coimbra. Other 700 engine kits are being sold at the Museum and Department of Physics. Children and adults amused themselves by building an electric engine consisting of a very small number of pieces, easily found and not expensive. This initiative aimed at demonstrating the practical application of mechanical physics principles and electromagnetism, which can be hard to make understandable to students who take make their first contact with Physics. ISA contributes actively to cultivate the interest for new technologies and to promote a culture of innovation among the youngest.
